• 2nd Grade Classroom Information

SICK DAYS If your child is ill and won’t be attending school, please call the office and leave a message before school begins for the day. Second grade work is difficult to make up since most of it is hands on or needs teacher direction. Any assessments or homework the teacher feels your child needs to complete will be placed on their desk. Upon their return, they will finish what they can in school and the rest will be sent home as homework. Please help your child complete and return their homework as soon as possible.

HOMEWORK Students' daily homework is to read for at least 15 minutes each evening.  Spelling Words are sent home on Mondays and are tested on Fridays. (No new Spelling Words are assigned on 3 day weeks.) They should also practice math facts everyday (flashcards or practice games).  If they do not finish daily work at school, they will have to bring it home to finish. They are to complete their homework that night and return it to the Homework Basket the next day.

BREAKFAST Students who eat breakfast at school need to finish breakfast and be in their desks by 8:20 for attendance and announcements. Exceptions are made when the buses are late.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Your child’s birthday will be celebrated in the classroom. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate his or her birthday on or near their half birthday. Treats are welcomed. If you do send treats we will have them in the afternoon during milk break at 2:00.

BOOK ORDERS Several times during the year I will send home one or more book order forms with your child. You are never obligated to purchase any of the books. Should you decide to purchase from the order form you will need to complete the order form and send the correct amount together in an envelope. Please send a check made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs.  On-line ordering is aslo available. http://clubs.scholastic.com/       (**See link information in the internet links section of my webpage.)

LIBRARY The students will visit the library as a class once a week. The students are allowed to check out two books. Students will be able to take computerized AR quizzes on them. They are able to test every day of the school week.  Books may be checked back in during the week and are able to check out new books at that time.  Several AR tests can be taken each week.

GYM Please send tennis shoes for gym. Gym shoes will be put on in the morning and worn until gym and recess are over. After gym and recess are over other shoes may be worn.

BOX TOPS Box tops will be collected all year. All of these contribute to our school and student learning opportunities. An app is available for download to scan labels.

WINTER CLOTHING Students should wear coats, boots, snowpants, scarves, mittens, etc., during the winter months.  If students do not have warm clothing with them they are required to sit in the study room during noon recess. If you do not have warm clothing let us know. We have some extra donated coats, boots, etc. at school. It is important for the students to play outside and get some fresh air.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent-Teacher conferences will be in October and February.  We have early dismissal for each conference day.  Students dismiss at 12:30 and conferences are pre-scheduled from 1:30-7:30.  If your scheduled time does not work, please call the school office and reschedule a time that does work.

BUS TIME Please send a note whenever your child is not riding the bus or is riding a different bus. It is very important that the bus drivers know if your child is riding the bus or not.  Bus passes must be obtained from the office to ride a different bus.

TOYS No electronic games or devices are allowed at school.  It is best if kids don't bring toys with for Recess.
